That summarizes a whole lot of my feelings about the Microsoft Surface stuff that I’ve seen. Most of my ranting was of the form: “Is there any conceivable practical application for any of these interfaces they’ve whipped up for this thing? Also, why do they keep acting like a multi-touch surface is a new development when the JazzMutant Lemur went on the market for purchase like three years ago AND had a practical use?”

I honestly can’t think of when I’d want to use a coffee table for computing. A regular-height, full-sized table would be absolutely awesome for playing computer-managed board games with friends. Photos and videos and so on? There’s a good reason that people hold photo albums vertically and that televisions have their screens mounted vertically.

It’s really only useful for when we all build bigass spaceships like on Star Trek.

And am I the only one who is constantly reminded of the tabletop videogames I sometimes saw in bars back in the 80s? I can recall both PacMan and Frogger on tabletop surfaces.
